Pilane Sculpture Park – Where Art Meets Landscape on the Island of Tjörn
We continue to explore Tjörn’s artistic treasures, and this time we take you to one of Sweden’s most unique art experiences: Pilane Sculpture Park. Just an hour from Hotel Flora in Gothenburg, this extraordinary open-air exhibition brings contemporary sculpture into dialogue with ancient history and dramatic Nordic landscapes.
Set on a windswept hilltop overlooking the sea, Pilane is a place where grazing sheep roam among monumental artworks. Every summer, the park invites internationally acclaimed artists to exhibit pieces that both contrast with and complement the surrounding nature.
This year’s exhibition (open May 10 – September 29) includes powerful installations that raise questions about time, memory, and our relationship to the natural world. It’s not just an art visit—it’s a full sensory experience.
Getting There from Hotel Flora
Reaching Pilane is easy by car. Take E6 north from Gothenburg, then exit toward Tjörn via road 160, and follow signs to Klädesholmen and Skulptur i Pilane. The journey takes about an hour. Parking is available on-site, and the entrance is well-marked.
Tip: Wear comfortable shoes—the park is built on hilly terrain and ancient grazing lands dotted with Viking-era burial sites.
Why Go?
Pilane is where Scandinavian minimalism meets raw nature. It’s a perfect contrast to the urban buzz of Gothenburg and a beautiful complement to a stay at Hotel Flora, where design and culture are always within reach.
Want to combine your visit with lunch by the sea? We recommend stopping in nearby Skärhamn or Klädesholmen for fresh seafood and salty breezes.
Let us at the front desk help you plan your perfect art day trip to Tjörn. Pilane is not just a park—it’s a journey through time, landscape, and creativity.
